Case Study:
Challenge:
ACMI, a
mid-size medical device company, was expanding its product development
group to include many new, inexperienced project managers. At the
same time, it was updating and improving its design control
system. The company needed to train their employees to make realistic
Gantt schedules within the new system. A computer training room
was not available.
Solution:
 |
Created
a training module that teaches Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
and Gantt charts in a completely participatory manner.
Module also includes client's new design control system and
feedback forms. |
 |
Presented
day-long modules at client's two R&D locations. Broke
participants into teams, allowing them to create their own WBS of
a fun project. Brought them together to create the resulting
schedule. Then worked together to assess the critical path
and bring the schedule in to meet the desired end date.
Finally, reviewed the client's design control system, and encouraged lively
debate about the system. |
Result:
 |
Participants
were engaged and excited. Feedback was extremely positive,
from both the project managers and upper management. |
 |
Format
of presentation allowed sending feedback on presentation, and on the
new design control system to management. |
"Ellen's
project management training was thorough and organized. She gave
my project managers a new level of understanding of Microsoft Project,
allowing them to track and manage their projects." - Ken Toso,
Global R&D VP, ACMI
